IX. European Ex-libris Congress, Paris, France, 19–22 July, 1962 The congress was organised by André and and Odile Herry and Paulette Colin-Gury. Apart from several lectures, delegates adopted a project of model exchange lists for collectors. They discussed in detail the possibility of founding a common European bookplate society under the auspices of UNESCO, but this project was later abandoned not only because institutional support was hard to obtain rapidly, but because there were a number of societies from Eastern Europe with which the West European societies wanted not to sever ties. A competition for the creation of bookplates was held in memory of Valentin Le Campion, and the prize went to Tranquillo Marangoni. The Paris Congress ended with a magnificent reception in the Town Hall. Gianni Mantero was awarded the Great Silver Medal of the Town of Paris for his work in the field of culture. |
