XXX. International Ex-libris Congress, Wels, Austria,
14-17 July, 2004

A perfect congress, superbly staged by Ottmar Premstaller for 420 participants to mark the 100th anniversary of the Austrian Ex-libris Society. There were five exhibitions on show: a Centenary exhibition of OEG, a show of bookplates by Austrian women artists 1900-1945, the best of the Bratislava Triennial 2004, a retrospective of the great Polish engraver Woicieh Jakubovski, and the laureates of the first FISAE CGD ex-libris competition. There were lectures on the Austrian Society's history, on the psychology of collecting, and a discussion of the future of ex-libris chaired by Heinz Decker. The excursion through beautiful rolling Austrian landscape took participants to the baroque Monastery of Krems, and to an exhibition of ex-libris by the Serbian engraver Ivan Miladinovic.
